Fire Alarm Systems and Their Major Types

Fire alarm system in Pakistan is as crucial as in any other country or place in the world. Safety measures are essential for every human being, whether he/she is living in a building, visiting a mall, or being in an office. Having smoke detection systems in every building comes under legal requirements for Fire Safety Reform in every country.

The building/mall owners are responsible for making sure that the fire alarm system is upgraded and fully functional. The fire safety measures include assessment and installation of different types of fire alarm system and smoke detection systems, according to the requirements to minimize the risk of danger. As we all know, a fire outbreak could happen anywhere, anytime and the administration should be prepared fully to get rid of the unfortunate event as soon as possible. For the larger and complex buildings such as hospitals and hotels, the more structured and complex type of fire alarm systems is required.

You will find a wide variety of fire alarm systems in the market, and it gets confusing sometimes to decide the best one for your building. Let’s discuss further the types of fire alarm systems and the benefits they possess:

Conventional Fire Alarm System:

A conventional fire alarm system is one of the most important types of fire systems in Pakistan that is used for smaller areas such as shops and cafes. The system has four wires and is not complex as compared to the other smoke detection systems. A conventional alarm system is not too expensive and can easily be used. First of all, the place is categorized into different detection sections. The detector and call-point in each zone are connected to the main circuit that is further hardwired to the control panel. Each detection zone can have multiple sensors to increase the sensitivity of smoke.

The alarm or bell in each detector is wired with two-core cables to every loop, which is also fire-resistant. As soon as the smoke is detected, the bell starts ringing as the control panel detects the danger. The zone of detection is also identified, through the triggered device, which also indicates where the fire initiated. After which, the building needs to evacuate.

Two-wire Fire Alarm System:

As the name suggests, this type of fire alarm system has a two-wire structure and are zoned in a similar way to the conventional fire alarm system. The two-wire fire alarm system can be wired to a different number of zones, 2 zones, 4 zones, and 8 zones. This is also one of the common types of fire alarm systems. Similar to the conventional system, the two-wire fire alarm system has different smoke detectors in different zones.
Each zone’s smoke detection system consists of call points, alarm/sirens, and a separate circuit that is connected to the control panel. You will find this fire alarm system in Pakistan easily. It is quite expensive as compared to the conventional fire alarm system but is more efficient and quick.

Analogue-addressable Fire Alarm System:

There are several differences between an analogue-addressable fire alarm system and a conventional smoke detection system. Analogue-addressable system is used for commercial premises as larger areas need more complex types of fire alarm systems. This fire alarm system has multiple detectors; each detector consists of call points, sounders, and alarms/sirens and other devices. Every zone has its own “detection address” that is wired in a loop with other loops around the building.

The size of the whole system depends on the area and other requirements. The system can have one or more loops. The detection of fire is identified at the control panel. The control panel identifies the exact location of the fire outbreak.

Wireless Fire Alarm System:

Wireless fire alarm systems are more complex and expensive as compared to the other types of fire detection systems. Unlike the conventional system, it does not require wiring or cable. There are multiple alarms assigned to different zones that are connected to the main panel without any hardwire. The system uses radio waves to function and has a faster response time. It is one of the most common types of fire alarm systems used by industries and other greater premises as it is reliable and quick. The whole smoke detection system has a higher sensitivity and smart connectivity through your mobile phones and PC.

Aspiration Smoke Detection System:

Aspiration smoke detection systems are used in larger areas such as warehouses. The detection system is highly sensitive to the smoke and identifies the smoke or fire even from a far distance. A fan is installed into the aspirating fire system that drives in the air from around the building through the sampling pipes and sampling holes in the system. The detector detects the air and identifies the smoke. This type of fire alarm system provides an early warning of a fire outbreak. This makes aspiration smoke detection systems highly sensitive and useful for larger and smaller areas, although it is expensive to install and maintain.

Conclusion:

Fire alarm and smoke detection systems play a critical role in our lives for safety purposes. It is essential to consult a professional for a suitable type of fire alarm system because safety comes first. Furthermore, test detection should be conducted before getting the smoke detection system installed. Also, it is necessary to maintain the fire alarm system such as change batteries regularly and check if the system is working properly. The presence of fire alarm and smoke detection system is crucial for your building as it will help save people from getting injured.

It also gives time to evacuate the area and prevent fire. The installation needs to be done by a professional team that knows the ins and outs of the system. Instead of getting people panicking and running in hazard, it is vital to get a suitable type of fire alarm system in the area. You will find all the types of fire alarm systems in Pakistan, but which one is the best for your building, office, or lab?
